What is conductive Education?

Conductive Education is a holistic educational movement approach. It becomes a slightly different way of life where the participant is actively involved in their learning and can transfer the skills and techniques learnt in a session into all aspects of everyday life.
It’s about actively learning, having a positive approach and taking the strong belief that a child or adult with physical disabilities can learn new or different ways. They learn their body and how to better control it in dealing with everyday tasks.

When did Conductive Therapy first begin? I’ve not heard of it before.

Conductive Education first came about by a Hungarian Dr (Dr Andras Peto) in 1945 in Budapest. He wanted an educational system for children and adults with neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida and other motor disorders.

How does it help?

Well Ewan has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and Dystonia and since Ewan’s been going we have noticed an improvement in his overall independence, standing and stepping. It’s been very positive and Ewan looks forward to going every week.
He has learnt to have a go at putting his coat on independently, to unzip his coat, taking off his and my socks and can sometimes even put on a pair of jogging bottoms all by himself!

Ewan also gets to mix and socialise with other children his age with similar needs.
He gets one to one care with a trained conductive therapist that focus and work towards Ewan’s individual targets.

For me, well it gives me a two hour much needed break and I get to meet other mums and dads going through the same. It’s really great to discuss related topics and ask for help and advice from the other parents or the conductors.

How can we help spread awareness?

We’d love for you to join in the fun helping to raise awareness on Conductive Education Therapy this week and you can join in by posting pictures of something Blue or by wearing blue this week.
In supporting your business too it might be a play scene with blue animals and creatures, maybe you’ve made a blue home for your treasures, having fun with your blue play silks or maybe the person in the picture is wearing blue. Whatever it is please do share in the fun and help spread awareness.
